Apple TV+’s Slow Horses, adapted from Mick Herron’s Slough House novels, is the best spy series on television. Gary Oldman is magnificent as Jackson Lamb, the flatulent, foul-mouthed genius who runs MI5’s dumping ground for washed-up agents, and the rest of the cast — Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves and company — is every bit as good.
Six series in (the sixth landed in autumn 2026) and every one is a 5/5 for me. Series 6 is equally excellent, and with series 7 already confirmed the next run looks very exciting.
Fans of the careful spycraft of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy will feel right at home, only with more swearing and better jokes. Essential viewing.
